Review: The Witness by Nora Roberts

I have enjoyed so many books by Nora Roberts, it's not really a surprise The Witness is a winner for me. She writes sweet contemporaries which I adore, and romantic suspense stories that I can turn to for a nice balance of romance and danger. I found this here and this book is one my newest favorites by her. The scene starts with a young Elizabeth who is ready to rebel against her strict life. What occurs is an experience that will forever change her life and follow her to twelve years later. Elizabeth has changed her identity, her world and lives in fear. During this time she learns how to protect herself and puts her smart to good use. The setting is a small town, which doesn't invite a lot of danger but works for the characters. It gives Elizabeth, now Abigail a chance to live the life she wants. And there is a great hero around. I like how Brooks managed to get under her  skin and he doesn't give up on getting to know her. It's a nice slow-paced kind of suspense, with some minor dangerous moments.

The Witness by Nora Roberts

Genre: Romantic Suspense
Daughter of a controlling mother, Elizabeth finally let loose one night, drinking at a nightclub and allowing a strange man’s seductive Russian accent lure her to a house on Lake Shore Drive. The events that followed changed her life forever.
Twelve years later, the woman known as Abigail Lowery lives on the outskirts of a small town in the Ozarks. A freelance programmer, she designs sophisticated security systems—and supplements her own security with a fierce dog and an assortment of firearms. She keeps to herself, saying little, revealing nothing. But Abigail’s reserve only intrigues police chief Brooks Gleason. Her logical mind, her secretive nature, and her unromantic viewpoints leave him fascinated but frustrated. He suspects that Abigail needs protection from something—and that her elaborate defenses hide a story that must be revealed.

With a quirky, unforgettable heroine and a pulse-pounding plotline, Nora Roberts presents a riveting new read that cements her place as today’s most reliably entertaining thriller
author—and will leave people hungering for more.
I'm super excited that her next release in April will be another romantic suspense. Whiskey Beach sounds so good!
